Structured schema

Each field specified separately — materials, preparation, conditions, controls, and expected outputs as discrete structured fields, not narrative prose.

Version controlled

Every change creates a new version. Previous versions remain permanently accessible and citable. Retractions are documented explicitly.

Peer reviewed

Reviewed by researchers in the relevant area before publication. Review history documented alongside the protocol for transparency.

Independently executable

Written to be followed without prior knowledge of lab-specific conventions. Reproducibility as a design requirement, not a hope.

Openly licensed

Published under CC BY 4.0. Free to use, adapt, translate, and republish. Citation encouraged, permission not required.

Citable

Each protocol version has a persistent identifier. Cite the specific version you followed in your methods section.
